According to a PwC report, the value of corporate mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the crypto industry has increased from $1.1 billion in 2020 to $55 billion at the moment. The increase was 4846%. The average volume of transactions in this market segment tripled, from $52.7 million to $179.7 million.
The report notes that several multibillion-dollar SPACs (Specialized Company for Targeted Mergers and Acquisitions) are behind these figures. In addition, activity in North America has resumed in 2021. This region increased its share in the total number of M&A transactions from 41% to 51%.
Europe leads in total value, followed by the Middle East and Africa market with $25.5 billion. Companies from the Asia-Pacific region are lagging behind. They accounted for only $5 billion in transactions in 2021. PwC analysts say that the volume of transactions for the acquisition of cryptocurrency startups and small private projects increased by 645%, from $4.5 billion to $26.3 billion.
The report also notes that 49 new venture capital companies entered the digital token market in 2021 to fund various cryptocurrency and blockchain initiatives. The total number of venture investment agents now reaches almost 500 enterprises. Experts believe that further expansion of the industry is expected in 2022 due to the arrival of more institutional players.
